1. About BRB Study Project:

SHRISTI is a developmental organization having thematic focus on Natural Resource Management, Livelihood and Micro-finance in order to develop sustainable livelihood options for rural destitute. Shristi has currently undertaken a study on ”Strategizing the Baitarani Basin Management for Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation”. This is an innovative action research initiative aimed at promoting integrated futuristic basin resource management in the Baitarani River in India. This project is about strategic basin resources appraisal and planning through participatory and collaborative processes. Focus of the project is on information generation/processing and making it accessible to basin stakeholders to enable informed choices and enhanced stakeholder voices in basin resource management. To achieve its goal, project works across four thematic areas of viz. NRM, Hydrology, Rights and Governance and Livelihood and Micro-enterprise along with other key issues related to cross-thematic overlaps. The study is taking up in-depth secondary and field research on these individual and cross- cutting themes along with facilitating of a series of hierarchical stakeholders’ dialogues to meet its objectives. The study area includes 8-Districts Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Angul, Balasore, and Sundargarh consisting of total 42 Blocks covering an area of 13,418.82 sq km in Orissa.

3. Rationale behind MoU:

  • Avoidance of duplication of efforts and thus ensure productive and effective use of available resources.
  • Gaining from each others’ past and present efforts, resources and expertise.
  • Concentration of efforts towards meaningful realization of objective.

4. Objective of MoU:

  • To facilitate collection, collation, generation, sharing and dissemination of information related to resources, resource management practices, policies and options with respect to Baitarani River Basin
  • To learn from each others experiences and knowledge about similar works, processes, examples in other places
  • To acknowledge each other’s inputs, help, facilitation with due respect to intellectual property
  • To mutually gain from sharing of human and other resources as mutually agreed
  • To gain from this synergistic effect of collaboration and to further the development processes in Orissa

5. Operational Procedure:

  • Allowing access to information from each others’ data base/ library to staff members/representatives
  • Allowing participation of staff members in different ongoing projects of mutual interest
  • Sharing of human and financial resources if required subject to mutual agreement and by following each other’s administrative/financial procedures
  • Putting partner’s name in related publications as mutually agreed and as per ethical principles of information sharing. Also putting partner’s name in web site with link to its website upon mutual agreement.
  • Exploring scope for taking up collaborative projects in partnership mode on subjects of mutual interest as agreed upon by both parties
  • Respecting ethical values, intellectual property resources in sharing of resources and information
  • Understanding and accepting limitations of partner to share any information due to any reason beyond the control of partner or as a result of any past/current legal restrictions
  • Allow each other adequate space to maintain identity and pursue own mandate
